THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF NIGERIA, IJESHATEDO PARISH

According to Dante Alighieri: 'From a little spark may burst a mighty flame.'
The church began when some brothers from St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Ebunwana Edda, namely: Emmanuel Eni Ikpe, Elias Agwu, Uduma Ukwu, and Okam Udu, and others doing business in Ijesha-Tedo felt the need to start a church in the area.
They began as a Youth Fellowship on 15th September 1979. There was no Presbyterian Church within Ijesha and its environs. The Fellowship grew, and the news spread to Ebunwana Edda, where their home church encouraged and prayed for them and for the Presbyterian Church in general.
In 1980, due to growth, members sought a worship location. They found a place at No. 37 Itelorun Street, Ijesha, which was initially a shop, later expanded. After about two years, the members informed the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Yaba, then under Most Rev. Dr. O. A. Ude, who recognized the little church as an Out-Station of Yaba Parish in 1984.

Historical Development
At this time, only one member was baptized and confirmed. Yaba Parish sent four ordained elders: Elder C. O. Arua, Elder (Mrs.) Ukor, Elder Ojigwe Ojigwe (of blessed memory), and Elder Fred Odu (also of blessed memory) – Elder-in-Charge.
The Yaba Parish also appointed a Management Committee to oversee the young church and report monthly. Later, Evangelist Okechukwu Akpu Ukie was deployed from Yaba Church as the first ordained Evangelist to Ijesha-Tedo Church, followed by Evangelist Agube and Evangelist (Mrs.) Comfort Ameke respectively.
The first three Elders were ordained on 13th September 1992: Elders Okam Udu Akwu, Uduma A. Uduma, and Ogbonnaya Uwa. They were ordained by Reverend Benebo Fubara Fubara-Manuel. Before the church became a Parish, Yaba Parish bought one plot of land at No. 71 Itelorun Street, Ijesha, which is where the church is currently located. The foundation stone was laid by Rev. A. E. Chukwu.
The Ijesha-Tedo Church was inaugurated as a Parish on 28th April 1996 during the tenure of Evangelist (Mrs.) Comfort Ameke and Rev. Agbai Eme Chukwu (Minister-in-Charge of Yaba Parish). At the inauguration, Elder Raphael O. Anya was elected the first Session Clerk while Elder Uduma A. Uduma was elected the first Parish Elder, Commissioner.
