TOPIC: DELEGATION OF GRACES
BIBLE PASSAGE: EXODUS 18:17-23

God never intended for one person to carry every responsibility. In today’s text, Jethro wisely advised Moses to delegate leadership so he wouldn’t burn out. This wasn’t just practical advice it was spiritual insight. Jethro suggests that Moses should appoint capable leaders over groups of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. This division of labor helps manage the workload and ensures that issues are addressed promptly. By selecting trustworthy individuals, Moses empowers others to make decisions, which fosters a sense of responsibility and community involvement. Jethro emphasizes that Moses should handle the more significant matters while delegating minor disputes to others. This allows Moses to concentrate on his primary role as a leader and mediator. The advice aims to prevent burnout and ensure that leadership is sustainable over time. Effective governance requires a system that can endure and adapt.
Similarly, Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, that the Spirit distributes different gifts to different members of the body for the common good. In a nutshell, no one has it all; but together, we have enough. In the early church and in the Presbyterian Church, Deacons and Elders were appointed to serve tables, so the apostles could focus on prayer and the Word. These food committee members were required to have the following qualities: persons of honest report; full of the Holy Ghost and endowed with Wisdom (Acts 6:1-4).
Today, a thriving ministry, organization, or family must recognize and release the graces in others. Consider a pastor who began mentoring emerging leaders, allowing them to teach, organize, and lead. This multiplied the impact of the Church and reduced burnout. Delegation isn’t about dumping tasks; it’s about identifying grace in others and creating space for it to flourish. When we share the work, we share the reward. In summary, hear this word of caution, _”we may be age mates but not grace mates”*_ In other words, respect graces as they are spiritual deposits for divine assignment over the destinies of men.
