TOPIC: RUTH – DEEPLY ROOTED
BIBLE PASSAGE: *RUTH 1:1-18*

_*But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.*_ – Ruth 1:16
This passage serves as a foundation for understanding the broader narrative of Ruth, emphasizing themes of loyalty, faith, and the transformative power of relationships. The events that occurred in the life of a righteous Israelite family (Elimelech) in Moab, where they moved to due to severe famine, demonstrates that God is active in the affairs of men. Naomi had lost her husband and their two sons leaving her as a widow along with the two wives (widows) of her dead sons. In the midst of this tragic reality, we learn great lessons about the resilient faith of Ruth, a Moabitess and widow of one of Naomi’s dead sons.
Ruth’s story is a shining example of deep loyalty, commitment, and faith. Her decision to stay with Naomi, her mother-in-law, even when it meant facing uncertainty and hardship, was not just an emotional choice but a spiritual one. Ruth aligned herself with God’s people and purposes, even when it didn’t guarantee immediate comfort. Her life speaks of someone who was deeply rooted not in her past, but in a new covenant with an unwavering staying power. Boaz replied, I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband. How you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before. May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” Ruth 2:11-12).
Ruth’s devotion led her to favour, provision, and ultimately to the lineage of Christ. Today, many are quick to abandon people, ministries, or commitments at the first sign of discomfort. Yet, God honours those who are rooted in Him and His plans. Consider the woman who stayed faithfully with her church during a split, serving with love through the rebuilding years, she later became a key leader in a revival. Deep roots withstand storms and bear lasting fruit.
