TOPIC: FINANCE IS SPIRITUAL
BIBLE PASSAGE: MATTHEW 6:19-24

Many separate their finances from their faith, but Scripture makes it clear how we manage money reveals the posture of our hearts. Jesus taught extensively about money, not because He needed it, but because He knew its power to influence our priorities. In today’s passage, Jesus warns against storing up earthly treasures while neglecting eternal values. Paul, in 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, emphasizes cheerful and generous giving as a spiritual discipline that reflects God’s nature in us.
Consider the widow who gave two mites – Jesus praised her because her giving flowed from deep faith (Mark 12:41-44). Compared to the rich who gave out of their abundance, the poor widow gave all that she had (indeed all her living) and out of her want. God measures giving not by the amount but by the love, generosity and sacrifice represented in the gift. Apostle Paul also commended the sacrificial giving of the Macedonian brethren to the church at Jerusalem because they gave when there was _*”a great trial of affliction’”*_ and out of their _*”deep poverty”*_ (2 Cor. 8:1-5).
Many believers hide under the cliche of giving their “widows mite” to offer to God what does not cost them anything. Have you seen, today, what the widows mite’ really means? That widow gave sacrificially everything she had remaining, just like the widow of Zarephath gave her last meal to prophet Elijah and her cruse of oil never went dry (1 Kings 17:8-16).
Likewise, a young professional once decided to tithe from his first salary despite pressing needs. Within months, he saw unexpected provisions and spiritual growth. Finance is not just maths–it’s a mirror of stewardship, trust, and worship. God is the ultimate provider, and honouring Him with our resources invites blessing, direction, and freedom. Next opportunity you have to give to God in church, don’t fold your hands, give bountifully and liberally as God has truly blessed you and see the results that follow.

_Review your financial habits. Are they aligned with God’s principles? Begin to steward your resources with purpose, generosity, and trust in God._
